Investing in Forever

Whereas the financial markets encourage exit by sale, there is no exit from a ‘forever’ project … at least not for a very long time.

It is in the nature of fiduciary money to ‘get in and stay in’ as long as an investment delivers a reliable return.

Rather than being slave to the whims of asset ownership in the capital markets, fiduciary money can pick and choose investments that ensure a dignified future for its beneficiaries.

These investments help to secure the future of everyone else as well, such as through stable employment and healthier environments. 

Over time, the upside from these investments yields enough cash for direct investments in social capacity—the capacity of society to support its people—and into the regeneration of natural capacity—the planetary systems that support the economy.

Stewardship Equity

It applies a tried-and trusted equity approach from commercial real estate to investments that meet stewardship criteria.

These might be discrete projects, such as solar farms, affordable housing or circular biorefineries, or they could be corporate acquisitions, to reorient an extractive business to regenerative ends.

As long as returns on the investment meet or exceed the fiduciary’s target rate, beneficiaries will continue to receive reliable payouts, with the added benefit that the investments themselves will secure rather than compromise beneficiaries’ long-term future.  We call this the ‘evergreen tail’.

Stewardship equity has the ability to expand institutional capacity to invest in a planetary economy at scale.  Governments have failed at it, and the financial markets are incapable of it.  The trillions in private money can catalyze this transition.
